A Personal Note...
Do you remember the feelings you had when you started your career? The possibilities ahead of you… How good it felt to be paid for what you wanted to do… I remember those feelings so well.
I remember the milestones in my career:
- To this day, I remember the trick my boss played on me, calling me in our VP’s office for a “brainstorming session”, only to discover I was promoted.
- Or years later, how my boss and the founder of the company I was apprenticing at made me an offer to join their team on a full-time permanent role in the back of a taxi on the way to a client meeting.
- My acceptance letter to my first summer internship in my dream company (CHANEL) and the yell of excitement I let out in the hallway of my NYC apartment.
And I also remember so many of the challenges I faced along the way…
- When I decided to leave my successful career for nothing with the only objective being to feel better. I had to face that this career was not my dream one anymore. I had to take a huge pause and figure out what was next for me and how I could finally find a career I would love not just some days but all the time.
- When I felt torn as I was forced to go back to the office during the pandemic (for no good reason) before I was eligible for the vaccine and with a baby at home.
- When I knew I was underpaid compared to my colleagues who were not producing better results than me (on the contrary).
- The deception of seeing a good rating (and not an outstanding one) on my annual performance review after a high-performing year.
